“Red Beauty” put on retired list

“Red Beauty,” the Studebaker fire truck which has served the city for about seven years today gave up its berth to the New American La France 750-gallon pumper truck which was recently purchased by the city. The new pumper arrived this morning via the Baltimore & Ohio railroad in a chartered car and was unloaded and driven into the local fire station.

Households, autos increase in 1949

Although the number of households in Jackson County has increased in the past year, a greater increase has been made in the number of automobiles and trucks operated in the county.

In 1948, there was an automobile or truck for each of the 5,493 households in Jackson County. The 1949 assessment shows that the number of households have increased only 26 but the number of motor vehicles has increased 368. The fact that many of these additional vehicles are new is reflected in an increase in the average value per vehicle from $369 last year to $440 in 1949.

Auto dealer honored for 50 years’ service

A Seymour man’s 50 years as owner of a local automobile firm were recognized Friday in a dinner and presentation here.

Roscoe Wilburn Hague, 75, a native of Medora, has spent all of his adult life in the automobile business and for the past 50 years has owned Seymour Motor Sales, 101-103 West Third street.

Those are among topics submitted by readers of The Tribune in preparation for Tuesday’s community meeting on school violence.

The questions will be posed to a panel of experts from around Jackson and Jennings counties who will open a dialogue on violence, its causes and what can be done to lessen it.
