FREETOWN
Vivian Loretta McKinney, age 91, of Freetown, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Vivian was a lifetime member of Houston Christian Church. She was also a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary at the church.
She and her husband ran McKinney’s market for many years in Freetown.
Vivian loved her church and her family dearly, and she helped raise her grandchildren for several years.
Vivian was a member of the Houston Homemakers Extension Club, and she enjoyed quilting with the members. She also enjoyed working in her flowers and her garden, going on shopping trips with her kids, sewing, and participating in hymn sings.
Born on September 23, 1932, in Houston, Vivian was the daughter of Clinton A. and Letha (Phillips) Winkler, both of whom preceded her in death. On April 23, 1951, at Kurtz, she married Bruce B. McKinney, Jr., and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2021.
Survivors include four sons: Raymond E. (Charlene) McKinney of Seymour, Donald W. McKinney of Freetown, Thomas B. (Seneca) McKinney of Freetown, and Roger Keith (Shannon) McKinney of Freetown; two daughters: Glenda M. (Larry) Wayt of Richmond, and Donna Joy (Dennis) Franklin of Seymour; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Vivian was also preceded in death by two grandsons: Christopher Dale Wayt and Douglas Allen McKinney; and two brothers and sisters-in-law: Emil (Gertrude) Winkler and Harold (Ruth) (Dorothy) Winkler.
Funeral services for Vivian Loretta McKinney will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Houston Christian Church with Pastor Dave Pritchard officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Houston Christian Church.
Interment will be at Houston Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Houston Christian Church or Houston Cemetery.
