CROTHERSVILLE — It was senior night in southern Jackson County on Monday evening in Crothersville, as the Tigers hosted Lanesville on the baseball diamond.

Four seniors in Lucas Hilton, Nolan Nickell, Logen O’Sullivan, and Cash Sawyer played their final home game in a Crothersville uniform.

Lanesville defeated Crothersville 19-3 in five innings, behind 10 hits, and walking ten times throughout the entirety of the contest. The Tigers had plenty of batted balls, but couldn’t find the gaps, as the Eagles made play-after-play to record outs.

Crothersville Head Coach Eric Hilton spoke about the outcome with Lanesville.

“We were making great contact at the plate today,” Hilton said. “Lanesville made some great plays the first 2 innings. Fielding is still our big concern with seven errors and too many passed balls.”

Lanesville poured on six runs in the first inning, adding three more in the second, before six more came across to score in the third. Three more came around in the fourth, and the final run came in the fifth frame.

Jaxson Payne belted a home run for the Eagles in the first inning. Crothersville plated two of their runs in the fourth inning. Dirk Crater hit a hard ground ball, reaching by error, but scored Hilton and Josh Reynolds.

In the fifth, O’Sullivan smacked a line-drive to right field to score Sawyer making it 19-3. Hilton also tripled before Sawyer pinch ran for him.

Coach Hilton spoke about some good takeaways for the Tigers after the game.

“Lucas’s triple was good to see,” he said. “Crater and Kelshaw both made solid contact and had a good approach at the plate during the game.”

The coach spoke about the four seniors who were celebrated on Monday.

“We have 4 seniors that have been in the program for all 4 years,” Hilton said. “The senior leadership is great to have on the team. Logen O’Sullivan and Lucas Hilton have done most of the starting pitching this year. It is great to see the senior leadership on the field.”

Crothersville travels to South Decatur for a game on Friday at 5 p.m. The Tigers then travel to the Indiana School for the Deaf on Saturday for a game at noon, before traveling to Clarksville on Monday, May. 20th at 5 p.m.

In Sectionals, the team is matched up with Henryville, scheduled for next Wednesday at Shawe Memorial at 7 p.m.
