SEYMOUR

Kevin Elsner, 64, of Seymour passed away on the morning of May 7, 2024, at his home, surrounded by the warmth of his loving family after a courageously fought battle with cancer. Kevin was born November 4, 1959, in Seymour to the late Gordon and Marjorie (McKain) Elsner.

Up until his illness, Kevin worked in maintenance at Lowe’s Distribution Center. In addition, he worked as a fuel tank driver for Circle K for many years as well as being a truck driver for Walmart distribution where he earned numerous safety awards. Kevin was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church where he married the love of his life, Jenice Duwe Elsner, on August 1, 1981.

He was best known to his family and friends as having a very gifted mechanical ability and an outrageously funny sense of humor. As a child, he built a telephone in a cigar box and made his own version of the “clapper” which turned electronics on and off with a simple clap well before they were ever marketed. He was great at fixing cars and just about anything with a motor. Later in life he built, upgraded, and played with computers and shared that knowledge with his nephew, Joe, who credits him for his career as a software engineer. He loved operating his drone and sharing the beautiful scenery he captured, spending time on the river, and target shooting. Also, Kevin had a love of old western classics, listening to talk radio on weekdays, and church radio on Sundays. He shared his funniest and most inappropriate jokes, especially at holiday dinners, much to the chagrin of his mother. Most of all, he deeply loved his family, especially his wife of 42 years, Jenice, and his two children, Jared and Leah Elsner.

Surviving to cherish his memory, in addition to his wife, are his children, Jared and Leah Elsner; his brother, Vincent Elsner; sisters, Lisa Elsner (Jesse Portugal) Corya and Marcia (Jeff) Montgomery; four nieces; three nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Marjorie Elsner; his mother and father-in-law, Roland and Maxine Duwe; brother-in-law, Ramon Duwe; and infant nephew, Christopher Elsner.

Funeral services for Kevin will be held Friday, May 10, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Voss & Sons Funeral Home, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. Father Daniel Staublin of St. Ambrose Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10:45 a.m. for a rosary service, followed by visitation at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions in Kevin’s honor may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour.
