LEXINGTON, INDIANA

Mr. Keith Lee Dixon, age 86, of Lexington, Indiana entered this life on February 13, 1938 in Vevay, Indiana. He was one of twenty children born to Kirby Van and Laura Belle Osborne Dixon. He was raised in Switzerland County and the Brooksburg community area and was a 1957 graduate of Vevay High School. He also attended tech school for two years. Keith was united in marriage to Shirley Lyons on September 5, 1959 at the Scaffold Lick Baptist Church in Blocher, Indiana. This happy union of nearly 34 years was blessed with a son, Keith Jr., and two daughters, Debbie and Evelyn. He was inducted into the United States Army on September 5, 1961 in Louisville, Kentucky. He rose to the rate of Specialist Four serving during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged on September 4, 1963 at Fort Lewis, Washington. He remained in the Reserves and was discharged on September 4, 1967. He and Shirley settled in the Hanover and Lexington area in 1959 where they raised their family. Keith had worked at Arvins in Columbus early in his life and then he began working at Rexnord in Madison in 1960 and was called by Uncle Sam so he came back to his job in 1963 when he had served his country and worked there until 1984 as an assembler and operator. He was a self employed electrician and carpenter for a while and also worked at Wellington Steel Company from 1985 to 1989 where he was a shop foreman and team leader. He began working at the Toyota plant in Columbus in 1990 and remained there as a team leader until his retirement in 2000. After his retirement Keith bought a Wood Mizer and was a demonstrator for the company since 2002 and had completed 128 demonstrations. Keith was saddened at the death of Shirley on July 14, 1993, but he continued on in his life working and caring for his family. Keith was united in marriage to Patricia Diane Lyons on August 23, 1997 in Sevierville, Tennessee. He was a member of the Scaffold Lick Baptist Church since 1959 where he had served as a trustee for the past 65 years. He was a member of the Scottsburg American Legion Post No. 234, the Scottsburg VFW post No. 6582 serving as Trustee, Conductor, Patriotic Instructor, and directed the Poppy drive for the past six years, and the Vietnam Veterans Scottsburg Post No. 2. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and his working in his sawmill. Keith was an avid Louisville Cardinal fan, devoted to and loved his family, his dog, Donna and was a true friend to many. Keith passed from this life on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 5:40 a.m. at his home in Lexington, Indiana.

Keith will be missed by his loving wife of 26 years, Patricia Diane Lyons Dixon of Lexington, Indiana; his loving daughters, Debbie Tash &her husband Joe of Bloomington, California, Evelyn Smith &her husband Roger of Hanover, Indiana; his loving son, Keith Dixon, Jr. of Madison, Indiana; his loving step-son, David Burr &his wife Gale of Austin, Indiana; his grandchildren, Beth Ann Massie, Dustin Lee Massie, Andrew Nathan Massie, Amandalynne Devastacia Dixon Van Wye, Haile Nicole Dixon, Joseph Lee Tash; his step granddaughter, Angela Kennedy; his great grandchildren, MacKenzie Ann, Dawson Sonny, Jason Wayne, Alyssa Ann, Addylyn Marie, Cory, Aaron; his great great granddaughter, Sage Roselyn; his sisters, Etta Royce and her husband, Calvin of North Vernon, Indiana, Vonna Haines and her husband, Lewis of North Vernon, Indiana, Carolyn Altepeter of Seymour, Indiana, Evelyn Rose and her husband, Terry of East Enterprise, Indiana; his sisters in law, Edith Dixon of Madison, Indiana and Billie Jean Dixon of Milton, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Kirby Van Dixon, died October 6, 1987, his mother, Laura Belle Osborne Dixon, died August 30, 1985, his first wife of 34 years, Shirley Lyons Dixon died July 14, 1993, his brothers, Hubert Van Dixon, died February 18, 1957, Sgt. Gale William Dixon, died May 22, 1968, Mickey Wayne Dixon, died July 10, 1983, Kirby Nelson Dixon, died October 6, 1987, Don V. Dixon, died July 1, 2006, Dale Andrew Dixon, Sr., died February 11, 2010, Gerald Dixon, died August 16, 2019, and Harold N. Dixon, died September 4, 2021; his sisters, an infant sister, Belle Dixon, an infant sister, Laura Marie Dixon, died September 7, 1930, Betty Sue Dixon Sturtzel, died May 12, 2001, Muriel Madeleine Dixon Walters, died January 13, 2014, Joyce Dixon Meredith, died September 3, 2017, Clara Marie Dixon, Lettie B. Dixon Wilson, died January 30, 2019, Amy Lee Dixon Lush, died September 27, 2022.

FUNERAL CEREMONY

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., by Chaplain Eric Wright, Pastor Dave Culley, and Pastor Mike Rogers at the Morgan &Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens,9306 North U.S. 421 near Madison, Indiana.

VISITATION

Friends may call Sunday from 10:00 Noon – 2:00 p.m. at the Morgan &Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.

MILITARY HONORS

A final salute with military honors will be provided by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.

VFW AUXILIARY SERVICE

The Scottsburg VFW Post No. 6582 Auxiliary will conduct a service of remembrance on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 1:45 p.m. at the Morgan &Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
