BROWNSTOWN
Joan (Main) Gorbett, age 89, of Brownstown, passed away surrounded by her family on April 27, 2024, at the Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown.
Born on August 20, 1934, in Chrisney, Indiana to the late Roy Logan Main and Maggie (Fortune) Main. After moving to Brownstown, she was a 1954 graduate of Brownstown High School Bears where she was a percussionist in the band. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Joan was employed with several local businesses in the county. She operated the West End Food Market in Ewing, IN. Later, she worked at Perry Jewelry Store, the Brownstown Banner, the Indiana Gas Company, and Indiana Department of Transportation. She was a long-standing member of the Brownstown United Methodist Church where she served on several boards and committees. Joan was a proud member of the Democratic Party serving on the precinct committee. She also served on the Brownstown Township Board of Trustees.
On December 5, 1954, Joan married Arthur J. Greger and out of this union were their children, Joyce Jean (Greger) Prange of Seymour and David Benton Greger of Brownstown. In 1971 in Booneville, IN she married William “Glen” Gorbett which was spent with many memories and travel.
Besides her children other survivors include: a brother, Roy Main of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Skyler Prange of Seymour, Maggie (Max) Schafstall of Seymour, &Piper (Jeremy) Daulton of Phoenix, Arizona; great grandchildren: Ellie &Parker Schafstall and Hudson &Camden Daulton.
She was preceded in death by brothers: David Main, Lester Main, George Nelson Main, and a sister Bertha Faye Wetherill.
Joan was a big IU basketball fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially A.J. Foyt and Dale Earnhardt. She had many acquaintances and friends who she respected along with her values of religion, trust, and politics.

Graveside and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia, IN, is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be given to Brownstown United Methodist Church.
