Trinity’s Addison Keaton had a single and an RBI against Columbus East on Thursday. East scored four runs each in the first and fifth innings to win 8-4.

The Columbus East softball team took advantage of Trinity Lutheran’s shaky defense to score four runs each in the first and fifth innings to defeat the Cougars 8-4 Thursday afternoon.
Trinity Coach Herb Gross said his team wasn’t prepared to take the field.
“We gave them a four-run head start,” Gross said. “Our defense was not ready to play. I didn’t hve the girls prepared in the first inning, but we cleaned it up as the game went along, and we played a lot better.”
The Cougars committed four errors, by four different fielders, in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead.
Trinity got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Olivia Cain singled and came home on a double by Addi Burcham.
Grace Lance and the Cougars retired the Olympians in order in the second, third and fourth innings. In the fifth, Daisy Logan walked, stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the catcher, and Lola Watkins hit a sacrifice fly for a 5-1 score.
The Cougars committed another error and East followed that with three straight hits and three runs to lead 8-1.
Lance led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and she later scored on a single by Morgan Brewer
The Cougars weren’t done offensively as Maddie Adams led off with an infield single. Lance followed with a fly ball to left field that was dropped for an error.
Dianna Munoz, Addison Keaton and Brewer hit consecutive singles with Keaton’s hit scoring Munoz.
Lance also retired the Olympians in order in the sixth and seventh innings and she allowed five hits, had three strike outs and one walk for the game.
The Cougars outhit the Olympians 8-5 with Brewer getting two hits and an RBI, Keaton and Burcham both had a hit and an RBI, and Cain, Adams, Lance and Munoz had a hit and scored a run.
