Academic All-Stars

Thumbs up to Seymour High School senior Lucas Jablonski who recently was named one of 40 2024 Indiana Academic All-Stars. Jablonski and the other recipients were recognized during an event at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis. A related thumbs up to Megan Lynn VonDielingen. The Brownstown Central High School senior was one of 50 other high school students recognized as Indiana Academic All-Star Regionals honorees. The competition, which started with a field of 271 outstanding nominees from private and public schools, is one of several organized by the Indiana Association of High School Principals.

Selfless servants

Thumbs up to the 82 volunteers with the Schneck Medical Center Guild. Those volunteers provided 12,985 hours of service to the Seymour in 2023. An extra thumbs up goes to guild volunteers Lisa Jorgenson, Bridget Molinari and Michael Seaney, who were recognized for 100 hours of service, Candy Smith and Paula Stafford who were recognized for 500 hours of service, Tom Stafford who was recognized for 1,000 hours of service and Bob Doriot and Loris Hubbard, who were both recognized for 2,000 hours of service.

Making a green earth

Thumbs up to the volunteers from Cummins Seymour Engine Plant, The Nature Conservancy and Indiana American Water who planted dogwood, witch hazel and hazelnut trees April 22 at Indiana American Water’s Wellheads near the 7000 block of East Reddington Street. The work accomplished on Earth Day was the final step in the water company’s goal of planting more than 35,000 trees and shrubs for the company’s wellhead reforestation program in Seymour and Shelby County.

Standing out

Thumbs up to the Indiana University Columbus students from Jackson County who were recognized for achievements this academic year during the Vice Chancellor’s Academic Honors Convocation on April 24. The list of about 40 students includes Kirsten Raisor, Brownstown, outstanding student in supply chain management; Stevie Sedam, Seymour, business scholar award; Lindsey Carr, Brownstown, distinguished teaching and learning performance in K-6 English language learner education; Michael DeShong, Seymour, outstanding pre-licensure student in nursing; Byrce Malan, Columbus Regional Health outstanding student in science;Nevie Henderson, Seymour; Malan; Coltin Wetzel, Seymour; Office of Student Research Grant award winners.
