James “Jim” R. England, 80, a longtime resident of Jackson County, passed from this life at 5:57 p.m. Saturday, April27, 2024 at Majestic Care North Vernon.

Jim was born November 4, 1943, in Jackson County, Indiana, the son of Ralph and Ethel Fordice England. On June 23, 1967, he married Barbara K. Robinson.

Mr. England worked as a custodian for Brownstown Elementary School for several years before retiring. He was also a fireman at the Medora Brickyard for 17 years. Jim was always working. He had side business, such as mowing, that he did in addition to his custodial job. Jim was the head greensman at Hickory Hills Golf Course. He liked to attend flea markets and car shows whenever he had the chance and had a knack for wheeling and dealing. In his spare time, Jim liked to watch old western shows. He was an accomplished artist with his drawings in addition to building wooden wagons. Fishing, making homemade knives and working on his 1979 Ford F-100 were things that he found both relaxing and fun. Most importantly, Jim loved his entire family and the time spent with them. He will certainly be missed by those that know and love him.

Survivors include his daughter, Wendy Cash of Brownstown; son, Toby (Kelley) England of Columbus; grandchildren, Joshua Cash, Brett (fiancé, Keiadra), Dylan, Megan England, all of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Jentry Cash of Brownstown and Madeline England of Columbus; siblings, Wilma (Lonny) Goen of Rushville, Roger (Pam) England, Cheryl (Rick) Fleetwood, both of Brownstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; siblings, June England Verna Mae Lewis and Patricia England.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Lonny Goen and Terry Fordice officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. A live stream of the funeral may be viewed at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at barkesweaverglick.com.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Barbara.
