Crothersville falls to the Lynx 12-5 Friday

CROTHERSVILLE — Crothersville baseball coach Eric Hilton said he liked what he saw on the offensive side of the ball during Friday’s game against Purdue Poly of Indianapolis.

However, it was the defense that left Hilton scratching his head following a 12-5 loss.

“We had five hits and scored five runs,” he said. “That was a positive. Dirk Crater did a good job going 2-for-4. We made solid contact. The other team made some pretty good plays.

“For our pitching, Lucas (Hilton) pitched four innings and had nine strike outs. Dirk came in in relief, pitched three innings and had three strike outs.”

The Tigers got off to a good start offensively as Josh Reynolds singled and went to second on an error on the right fielder and he scored on a hit by Crater.

The Lynx scored one in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth and the tigers had to play catch up.

“We had holes in the defense. We have to do a lot better on passed balls on the catcher,” Coach Hilton said. “That hurt us and the nine errors tonight.”

Of the 12 Purdue runs, only four of those batters got on base with a hit as the visitors received eight walks, plus the Tiger pitchers hit two batters. Purdue added two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.

With one out in the fourth, Logen O’Sullivan walked and scored on a double by Beau Napier, and Napier scored on an infield out by Koby Davis.

Napier was hit by a pitch in the sixth and scored on a single by Gage Howard.

Crater led the Tigers on offense with a single, double and two RBIs, while Napier reached base three times on an error, single and by being hit by pitch and he scored two runs.

Corey Kelshaw was also on base twice with walks, and Howard had a walk and single.

Troy Clark had two singles and a walk with three RBIs and he scored three runs to lead the Lynx and Ryan McNeal had a triple and single, he also scored three runs and had one RBI.

The Tigers were 1-8 heading into yesterday’s Southern Athletic Conference game against Borden. The team dropped that matchup 15-3.

Crothersville will travel to Henryville tomorrow at 5 p.m, for a matchup with the Hornets.
