NORTH VERNON

Virginia Ruth “Jenny” Simmons, 77, of North Vernon, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 9:34 a.m.

Born January 3, 1947, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Gwendelon (Mason) Hess.

Jenny graduated from North Vernon High School in 1965 and went on to work for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville from 1971 until 2005. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in North Vernon. Jenny loved animals, watching and feeding birds, eating sweets, listening to music, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruthann Simmons; sisters, Mary and Leona Hess; grandchildren, Jessica Ault and Cody Clerkin; and great grandchildren, Jazlin Foster and Jhett Ault.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael Simmons; and her companion, Elmer Hall.

A funeral service for Jenny will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be held at a later date at Vernon Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home in Jenny’s honor to the North Vernon Moose Lodge.
