MEDORA

Harlin Ross Woods, of Medora, passed away on the evening of April 23, 2024 at his home with his family by his side. He was 81 years old.

Ross entered this life on November 8, 1942, in Seymour, Indiana. He was the second born to Harlin and Orpha (Sovern) Woods and the brother to Robert and Velma.

Ross was called to active duty by the US Navy on August 1, 1962. He was a seaman aboard the USS Earle B. Hall, a high-speed naval troop transport ship. Ross was on the frontlines of the blockade of the Cuban Missile Crisis and could see the Russian Warships from bow of his ship. After completing his duty two years later, Ross returned to Jackson County and started driving a truck for the county highway department. He would later go to work for Midway Supply. He became the go to guy and was often sent to help open new locations. Working for Midway Supply he was able to learn the HVAC trade. Ross would leave this job and start his own HVAC company, Ross &JD Woods Heating and Air for over 15 years until he retired.

On December 4, 1965, at the Brownstown Nazarene Church Ross was united in marriage to Doris (Stafford) Woods. This union of over 57 years was blessed with a son JD. She preceded on August 13, 2023. Ross was a devoted husband, father, Grandpa and Uncle Ross to those who loved him. He loved spending time with his family. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved the outdoors, especially spending time at “The Pond” with his family. And when it was time to mow grass, it was a serious business, and no one could do it to his approval. Ross was also an avid fisherman. If it was a pretty day and the fish were biting he was there, except when it was a bad day, and then he would have to go work at White River Ag for the day.

He had a servant’s heart for his friends and community. For many years Ross would have fish fry fundraisers for local community families and civic groups. When the fair would come around he would help park cars for Kurtz Church or frying fish at the conservation stand.

His love will be forever cherished by his family, son JD Woods and his wife Heather of Crothersville, and grandchildren, Kolbey Mount of Crothersville and Kasen Mount of Deputy and a great grandsons Jentree and Cash, and his sister Velma fisher of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his brother and his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday April 27, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Hague Funeral Home with Pastor Floyd Fisher and Pastor Chuck Morgan officiating.
