Tyler Cain wins second Indiana Pro Late Model feature of 2024

It was Crown Vic Special night at Brownstown Speedway on April 20. There were 34 Crown Vics on hand to try and score a victory. Matt Cranmer of Memphis would get the win and be the third different winner out of three Crown Vic events for 2024.

Eric Lewis jumped to the early lead in the Crown Vic feature. Matt Cranmer passed Lewis for the lead and the win near the halfway point of the event. Jeff Cranmer, Eric Lewis, Chris Young and Dustin Cross from his 19th starting spot followed at the finish. Rounding out the top 10 were Jason Cranmer, Todd Cain, Matt Weston, Wayne Shoff and Josh Hayes.

Tyler Cain of Seymour made it 2 for 2 in P3 Graphix Indiana Late Model Series Pro Late Models in dominating fashion. Cain led flag-to-flag with a good race taking place from second on back and throughout the field. Derek Groomer, Tyler Neal, Caleb Schryer and Rohn Moon ended up second-through-fifth.

Blake Hull of Nebraska scored the win in Pewter Hall Super Stocks to become the fourth different winner out of four races in the highly competitive Super Stocks. Hull took the early lead from Isaiah Sasser and stayed there for the victory. Greg Amick worked his way to the runner-up spot and made a charge at Hull in the closing laps of the race. Amick, Tucker Chastain, Isaiah Sasser and Rick Gumm trailed Hull at the finish.

Brent McMillan of North Vernon led all the laps in Crossroads Truck Equipment Pure Stocks for the win and broke Josh Turner’s two-race win streak. Turner ran second with Keaton Streeval, Tanner Short and Dalton Fleenor trailing at the checkers.

The best race of the night was in the Hornet division feature. Michael Brewer of North Vernon took the early lead, and with five laps remaining, Jeremy Ogle caught Brewer. The two drivers ran side-by-side for the rest of the race. Brewer got the win by a nose at the checkers. Jeremy Shemwell, Todd Dasenbrock and Preston Righthouse completed the top five.

Lewis wins at Lawrenceburg

Ricky Lewis won the BOSS Sprint Car feature on April 20 at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Columbus native J.J. Hughes finished in second, followed by Anton Hernandez, Kyle Shipley and Garrett Abrams.

Nick Snell won the modified feature over J.P. Roberts Jr., Dalton Smith, Kyle Schornick and Austin Self. Rayn Paciocco won the hornet division feature over Cordell Moore, Alex West, Michaelle Baird and Landon Ramirez. Joel Andrews took the pure stock feature win over Danny Eichler, John Heaston, Rick Zimmerman and Dylan Chase.

Ballou wins at Circle City

Robert Ballou won the sprint car feature on April 19 at Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis. It was the opening race for the 2024 season. J.J. Hughes finished in second, followed Tyler Kendall, Rylan Gray and Frank Guerrini.

Tucker Chastain won the super stock feature race over Blake Hull, Zach Sasser, Lee Hobbs and Cale Kern. Will Bennett took the modified feature over Curt Spalding, Cole Parker, Jack Dossey and Jerry Bland Jr. and Sheldon Oberle won the pure stock feature over Keaton Streeval, Mickey Hines and Ronnie Pardue.

This week in racing history

From 70 years ago in 1954, Columbus Speedway opened its racing season with Red Carmichael taking the feature win over Ernie Brewer, Ted Pfeiffer, Gerald Hoppock, and Clinton Cooley.

From 60 years ago this weekend in 1964 at Brownstown Gene Petro won both the late model and Figure 8 feature races. Petro outran Sherman McElfresh, Everett Shepherd and Sonny Lucas to win the Figure 8 race.

On this weekend 50 years ago at Twin Cities, Gary Herbert won the feature race over Mike Stewart, Alan Scott, Jim Giltner and Gene Spicer.

Also, from 50 years ago at Bloomington, Tony Solomito won the sprint car feature over Bobby Black, Mike Waltz and Mike Johnson.

From 50 years ago this weekend in 1974 at Brownstown, Don Hobbs won the late model over Butterball Wooldridge and Jim Curry.

From this weekend in 1974 at Haubstadt, Bubby Jones won the sprint car feature and Wayne Coakley took the late model feature.

From 40 years ago this weekend in 1984 at Brownstown, Russ Petro won the late model feature over Bob Pierce, Kevin Claycomb, Carl Collins and Lee Fleetwood. Terry Eaglin won the modified street stock feature over Danny Blackwell, Rick Hines, Bobby Johnson and Mike Bechelli.

From 1984 at Twin Cities, Daryl Herbert won the late model feature over Steve Boley, Dee Kramer, Merrill Wilson and Bud Seymour. Merrill Downey won the modified street stock feature race over Willie Sallee, Earl Plessinger, Buddy Franks and Benny Bryant. Ray Hughes took the street stock feature over Dan Sallee, Willie Klepper, Bob Cash and Randy Lucas.

From 30 years ago in 1984 at Haubstadt, Dave Blaney won the All-Star Circuit of Champions sprint car feature over Rocky Hodges and Joey Nash. Everett Bradham won the modified feature over Jay Jones and Johnny Diemel.

Also from 1984, Rick Ferkel won the season-opening All-Star Circuit of Champions sprint car feature at Paragon over Kenny Jacobs, Rickey Hood, Jack Hewitt and Dave Blaney. Marvin O’Neal won the limited late model feature over Jim Nichols, Dave Weddle and Albert Illg. Mike Gibbs took the stock car feature win.

From 30 years ago in 1994 at Twin Citie,s Darrell Lanigan won the late model feature over Scott Graham, Marty O’Neal, Garry Mahoney, and Mike Gibbs. Randy Petro won the street stock feature over Don Fleetwood, Cale Kern, Joe Johnson and Tim Clark. Mark Bowling won the bomber feature and Jim Holman took the top honors in the amateur class.

Fromm 20 years ago in 2004 at Brownstown, Mike Jewell won the Hoosier Dirt Classic for late models over John Gill, Dennis Erb Jr., Greg Johnson and Shannon Babb. Shelby Miles won the modified feature race over John DeMoss, J.D. Roberts, Alan Magner and Broc Burton.
