CROTHERSVILLE — Crothersville was back in action at home on Wednesday evening against the New Washington Mustangs. On the diamond, New Washington would get the better of the Tigers, winning the matchup 21-5 behind a 12-run fourth inning.

The game started with an exciting first inning, as Crothersville held a 4-3 lead moving into the second inning. New Washington responded with four runs in the second, two runs in the third, and a detrimental 12-run fourth.

Crothersville Head Coach Eric Hilton spoke about the outcome with the Mustangs on Wednesday night.

“We just had too many mental errors in the field today,” Hilton said.

The coach spoke about the opening stretch of the season for the Tigers.

“We had a few good games to start the season,” he said. “They are hitting and running the base path good. We would have better outcomes if we could slow down the mental errors.”

The team recorded four hits, by four different players on Wednesday. Lucas Hilton, Dirk Crater, Koby Davis, and Logen O’Sullivan picked up the base hits for the Tigers.

Hilton, Crater, and Davis recorded an RBI as well. Nolan Nickell recorded the other RBI for the Tigers. O’Sullivan recorded the only stolen base for Crothersville in the loss.

The team used three different pitchers against New Washington in Hilton, who started the game, lasting two innings, allowing five hits, six earned runs and striking out six batters.

O’Sullivan relieved Hilton, going 1.2 innings, allowing 13 runs, none of them being earned and fanning two batters. Crater finished the game on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs for Crothersville.

Conner Shaffer started the game for the Mustangs, pitching all five innings, allowing four hits, five runs, and striking out eight batters in the process.

As we progress into the month of May, Coach Hilton was asked what the team needs to do in the final stages of the regular season.

“During this final stretch, we need play together as a team,” he said. “Our pitcher’s need to keep pitching and the fielders behind them need to make plays and field the ball.”

Crothersville faces off with Dugger Union today at 1 p.m. The game will take place at Dugger Union High School.

The team gears up for two games next week, traveling to Henryville on Monday and Columbus Christian on Tuesday. Both matchups will begin at 5 p.m.
