Ron Dale Hawn, age 69, of Brownstown, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, with his wife, Denise, by his side.

Mr. Hawn was baptized in the Christian faith in 1994.

Ron graduated from Seymour High School in 1972. He also graduated from Oakland City College with a Bachelor of Science degree and from Indiana University with a master’s degree in education. He taught secondary education in science and biology. He loved high school basketball and coached boys’ varsity basketball for the Austin, Whiteland, Delphi, Jeffersonville, and West Washington school systems. He was also a high school golf coach for the Jeffersonville school system. He retired from teaching and coaching in 2009.

Mr. Hawn was a compassionate, family-oriented person. He was witty and had a dry sense of humor. Ron loved golfing with his friends, and he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and I.U. fan.

Born on May 26, 1954, in Seymour, Ron was the son of Sam and Mary (Fields) Hawn, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 29, 1995, at Brownstown Christian Church, he married Denise Lynne Zike, and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include one brother, Gary (Karen) Hawn of Sellersburg; brother-in-law, Andy Zike of Seymour; sister-in-law, Pat Hawn of Florida; and several nieces and nephews, including Jeff (Robin) Hawn of Sellersburg and Matt (Cammie) Hawn of Austin, Texas.

Ron was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dean and Jane (Mullen) Zike; one brother, Steve Hawn; and one sister, Janet Asher.

Funeral services for Ron Dale Hawn will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Rob Johnson officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.

Memorials may be given to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
