AUSTIN — The Lady Tigers were back in action on the road Monday at neighboring Austin.
Crothersville had already faced the Eagles, dropping that game 11-0 in the Sue Siekman Classic Tournament at Southwestern (Hanover) on Saturday, Apr. 6th.
This time, it wouldn’t be much different, as Austin downed Crothersville 16-1 to grab their second win of the season. The Tigers fell into an early 10-0 hole after two innings after multiple hits, and a few errors from Crothersville.
Tigers Head Coach Bryant Hughes spoke on the outcome with the Eagles on Monday.
“It’s the outcome we expect,” Hughes said. “We had smiles on our faces, great attitudes and did our best throughout the game.”
Laekon Colwell and Grace Walker recorded the hits for the team, Colwell hit a single to score Dacie Hughes for the lone run. Walker had an extra-base hit with a double. Hali Burton stole two bases to lead the team, Walker also recorded a stolen base for the Tigers.
Hughes was asked about some good things the team can take away from this game.
“My girls,” he said. “No matter the score, our heads stay up high. We are determined to continue to learn and gett better throughout this season.”
Hughes spoke on the biggest points of focus for the team as we progress into the season.
“We’ve got to start swinging the bats more often,” he said. “We’re watching way too many third strike calls.”
The Tigers fall to 0-5 on the 2023-24 season. They will travel on the road for their remaining two games this week. On Wednesday, they’ll face South Central at 5:30 p.m.
On Friday, they’ll face Trinity Lutheran in an all-county matchup beginning at 5 p.m.
