Jackson County Purdue Club to hold scholarship meeting

The Jackson County Purdue Club will hold its Annual Scholarship Fundraiser meeting at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Pewter Hall in Brownstown.

The annual meeting includes a silent auction and a live auction to raise scholarship funds for local students attending Purdue. Since 2008, the Purdue Club has awarded over $100,000 to Jackson County students.

The cost of tickets for the event is $15 for students, $25 for adults and $150 for a table of eight. The meeting is open to all.

The doors will open at 5:45 p.m. with the start of the silent auction then social hour 6 p.m., a buffet meal will begin at 6:30 p.m. and at 7:15 p.m. scholarship winners and silent auction winners will be announced.

At 7:45 p.m., Dr. Karen Plaut, Purdue’s Vice President of Research and the former Dean of Agriculture for Purdue will speak.

She became the executive vice president of research at Purdue University in January 2023. Overseeing an expanding $600 million research enterprise, Plaut is responsible for university-wide initiatives and bringing together researchers and resources across traditionally academic boundaries to drive interdisciplinary discoveries with societal impact.

Formerly, the dean of the College of Agriculture she was responsible for administering academic programs in the College of Agriculture, the Indiana Agricultural Experiment Station, the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service and a number of state regulatory services.

At 8:15 p.m. a live auction will commence.
