The Freetown Friends Home & Club met at Shawn Smith’s home on Thursday, March 20, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. Smith was filling in as hostess for Dana Jester, who was sick with a cold.

Shorty Blake gave the prayer before the meal. Everyone enjoyed chicken salad, croissant sandwiches, bean salad, chips and dip, apple pie and strawberry cheesecake.

President Debbie Rouse opened the business meeting by handing out the March Homemaker newsletter from county president Misty Stuckwisch.

The December 2023 minutes were read and approved. The club did not meet in January and February.

The treasurer report was given. The balance was $27.10.

Rouse explained the achievement night hosted by Kum Join Us Club on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 5 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church Parish Hall. Each club should bring a dish for the pitch-in meal that night. Clubs can also bring non-perishable goods for the county sheds in Jackson County.

At the achievement night, clubs will be celebrating 100 years of the Wegan Wide Awake Club, which will also be their final year as a club. The County Home Ec. organization will be purchasing a special cake to commemorate this milestone and properly send off the club.

Clubs can also bring one item they have made in the following category — quilting, needlework, crocheting/knitting, crafts/miscellaneous and special project.

Smith volunteered to bring a craft for achievement night. Rouse said the County Home Ec. will be giving each member a Christmas ornament to celebrate Wegan Wide Awake Club’s 100 years.

The Freetown Friends Home & Club was responsible for making their own name tags for the achievement night.

Rouse calculated their club points for the past year so they could qualify for a gold certificate.

Rouse told the club their Home Ec. dues were needed by April 1, 2024. The dues were $14.75 for 2024.

The club made plans to go to Louisville, KY to be on the Belle of Louisville for a two hour cruise on Thursday, June 20. The Juggernaut Jug Band will be performing on it.

The cruise’s cost for seniors is approximately $22.99 without a meal and the cost for ages 3-12 will be $14.99. Participants need to be there 30 minutes ahead of cruise time. Afterwards, they plan on going out for an evening meal.

The next meeting will be held at Smith’s home on April 24, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. Each member was assigned to bring a new recipe for lunch: Debbie Rouse brings dessert, Shorty Blake brings salad, Sheryl Ault brings scalloped potatoes, Shawn Smith brings a surprise meat dish, Dana Jester brings bread and Donna Garvey brings Diet Coke, Cherry Coke and lemonade.

The meeting was closed by secret pal gift giving.
