The Owls faced off with Oldenburg Academy on the tennis courts on Monday evening. Seymour hosted the Twisters out at the high school, dropping the meeting 3-2.

Seymour head coach Jacob Hunt spoke on the outcome with Oldenburg.

“Tonight was a super close loss,” Hunt said. “It came down to a super tiebreaker in the number three singles match. Macy Pifer fought really hard for us, but it didn’t go her way.”

The Owls lost all three singles matches, but won both doubles matchups.

“We had some issues with our singles playing tonight, but the silver lining was a great showing for our doubles teams,” Hunt said.

Seymour No. 1, Ava Sunbury dropped her match with Isabel Price, 6-7 (2-7), and 1-6. The second match between Claire Combs and Evelyn Vanderpohl went to the Twisters, 6-1, and 6-3.

The third and final singles match featured Pifer and Lilly Vanderpohl, which went to a super tiebreaker, with Oldenburg winning 5-7, 6-4, and 10-7.

The Owls performed well in the doubles matchups, winning both of them without much trouble.

The first team of Elise Hartung and Addison Hunsley defeated Kenlee Martin and Ashley Hunter, 6-2 and 6-2. The second group of Tori Fee and Emma Woodard downed Kloie Lehman and Lexey Simmons, 6-1 and 6-1.

Coach Hunt spoke on what he likes from the team in the first couple weeks of the season.

“We already have a very close team with a lot of spirit,” Hunt said. “I hope we can use that as the season progresses along. I hope the girls can motivate one another to give it their all.”

The Owls will prepare to face Brownstown Central on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. The all-county matchup will take place at Seymour High School.
