At least 6 hurt as storms rake state

Without warning, a tornado slashed across southeast Indiana in the predawn darkness Friday, tossing mobile homes, destroying outbuildings and leaving at least five people injured.

A sixth person was in critical condition in a hospital burn unit after being struck by lightning while he played soccer.

Locally damage was heavy at the home of Samuel White, who lives on Ind. 250 east of Uniontown. White’s roof was ripped completely off, and debris was scattered throughout his yard.

“It sounded like a huge airplane roaring over,” White recalled of the twister that he said blew through the area sometime after 2:30 a.m. on Friday.

“It was bouncing up and down,” he said.
