Brownstown Central

The Lady Braves shut down Salem on Tuesday, defeating the Lions 8-2 to improve to 2-2 on the 2023-24 season. Rylee May threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and two runs, striking out five batters in the winning effort.

May also led the team on offense with two RBI’s and two hits. Emily Dillman and Kinzee Dean also recorded multiple hits.

Trinity Lutheran

The Cougars track team competed at the Clarksville triangular meet on Tuesday with the host team and New Washington. The girls team won their meet with a team score of 41, edging New Washington by eight points.

On the boys’ side, Trinity finished in second place, three points behind Clarksville who won the meet.

Trinity heads to Borden Saturday to compete at 10 a.m.

The Owls competed with Columbus North on Tuesday, but the meet would be rained out during the event. The plan is to finish the meet on Friday. Results will be officially posted when the meet is over.

Brownstown Central

The Braves competed with Eastern (Pekin) on Tuesday on the track. The boys and girls dominated their way to victories. The boys won their meet 107-25, with the girls winning 91-33.

Brownstown competes again on Saturday at the Sam Sumner Invitational at Borden, which begins at 10 a.m. Medora, Crothersville, and Trinity Lutheran will also be in attendance.

Girls’ Tennis

Seymour

The Owls battled Scottburg on the road in girls’ tennis on Tuesday evening. Seymour defeated the Warriors 3-2, led by Ava Sunbury, who defeated Leah Shuler, 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match.

Claire Combs fell to Olivia Spellman in the second singles match, 4-6, and 5-7. Macy Pifer fell to Elyse Anisk in three sets. The Owls rebounded in the doubles matches, winning both to take home the victory.

Elise Hartung and Addison Hunsley defeated the team from Scottsburg, 6-0, and 6-1. The second team of Tori Fee and Kelsea Hunsley did the same, winning 6-1, and 6-0 to secure the win.

The Owls will host Columbus East tonight at 4:45 p.m.

Baseball

Crothersville

The Tigers opened their baseball season on Tuesday against Waldron in Crothersville. The Tigers would drop the matchup 11-1.

Lucas Hilton took the mound for the Tigers, pitching five innings, allowing two hits and six runs, two of them being earned. He also struck out 10 batters, being relieved by Logen O’Sullivan, who pitched the final two innings.

On offense, Crothersville picked up two hits, one from Gage Howard and the other from Koby Davis. Nolan Nickell recorded the RBI, driving in Hilton for the only run. Crothersville will play Columbus Christian on Saturday at 10 a.m. They play Cannelton on Saturday at 2 p.m. Cannelton and Columbus Christian will play each other at noon.

Boys’ Golf

Brownstown Central

The Braves traveled to Columbus on Tuesday for a matchup with the Bull Dogs on the golf course. Brownstown lost a close match by four strokes, 154-150. Micah Sheffer and Caiden Gwin both had the best round for the team, both carding 37’s.

Matthew Reedy ended his round with a 38, while Cole Brelage shot a 42. Caden Waskom scored a 43, with Collin Downing ending with a 44.
