Owls walk-off Columbus North in softball on Tuesday

The Seymour softball team used teamwork to score the winning run for a 2-1 win over Columbus North at home Tuesday afternoon.

In the bottom of the seventh, Zoe Williams singled past the second baseman into centerfield. She was replaced by Delaney Warren, who was sacrificed to second by Addy Coomer.

Taylor Stuckwisch followed with a single over the first baseman that scored Warren.

“Everyone did their job,” Owls coach Emily Bobb said. “Zoe comes in with a clutch pinch hit in the bottom of the seventh, Addy follows it up with a sacrifice bunt and Taylor drives in the winning run.

“We finally put all the pieces together, which we haven’t done up to this point in the season.”

The Owls took a 1-0 lead in the third when Coomer singled and scored on a hit by Stuckwisch. The Bull Dogs tied the game with an unearned run in the fifth.

Stuckwisch went the distance on the mound and allowed six hits had nine strikeouts and no walks.

“Taylor did a phenomenal job of getting ahead in the count and making them hit a pitcher’s pitch,” Bobb said. “Our defense backed her up by making the routine plays and then some.”

The Owls had six hits with Lainey Sandlin and Stuckwisch getting two each, and Williams and Coomer each had one.

Seymour won the JV game 11-2.

Seymour, who is sitting 3-3 so far this season, will host Mitchell at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
