Braden Richey pitched a two-hit shutout and helped his own cause with a two-run single to help the Seymour baseball team whip South Dearborn 9-0 on American Legion Field Tuesday night.

Richey allowed two singles, had eight struck out and one walk in going the distance on the mound.

The Owls scored twice in the first inning, then put the game out of reach with five runs in the second inning. The Owls added single runs in the third and sixth innings.

Bret Perry hit a two-run home run in the first inning and had another RBI with a single.

Aaron Holt also had two hits, while Mikey Wright, Jack Pennington, Ross Pumphrey, and Shotaro Takeuchi had one hit apiece. Pennington and Holt had doubles, while Pennington also had two RBIs and Holt drove in one run.

Brady Harpe and Gavin Leavy each scored two runs, while Perry, Wright, Pumphrey, Holt and Takeuchi each scored one.

Owls Coach Jeremey Richey said it was a good, all-around performance by his team.

“I’m a little disappointed in our energy, but I thought the play was pretty good. We did what we needed to win. The good news is we got everybody in the game

“We had a couple innings there where we didn’t score, but I think we did a lot of things well early, then we were able to play well defensively.

“We talked about defense and pitching is what we have to do to win games and I thought the pitching was pretty good and defensively we made the plays we need to make.”

The Owls are 5-1 and are scheduled to play a makeup game today at Salem.
