Trinity Lutheran

The Cougars were expected to host New Albany on Friday, but due to wet field conditions, the game was moved to New Albany.

Trinity fell into a deep hole with New Albany scoring 7 runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs cruised to a 10-4 win, with Trinity scoring 3 runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh,

Peyton Pollert led the way on offense, picking up two hits and three runs batted in. Pollert tripled in the fifth to score Nathan Finke and Bode Brooks, before hitting a sacrifice fly in the final inning to add the fourth run for the Cougars. Finke also picked up two hits for Trinity in the loss.

Rose got the start for New Albany, pitching six innings and striking out 10 batters for the Bulldogs. The Cougars fell to 1-2 on the 2023-24 season.

Trinity will travel to West Washington tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.

Seymour

The Owls, like the Cougars, had to face New Albany over the weekend. Seymour faced off with the Bulldogs in a doubleheader on Saturday morning.

Splitting the series with their HHC foe, losing game 1, 8-4, before bouncing back to win game 2, 6-2. Bret Perry also added another accolade to his ‘storied’ Seymour athletic career. Perry became the all-time leader in hits with a double to left center field. The senior will likely add to that number as the 2023-24 season has just started to take off.

Softball

Trinity Lutheran

Trinity competed in the Rising Sun Tournament on Saturday in softball. The Cougars dropped their opening matchup with Triton Central, 9-1. Trinity then defeated Batesville 11-7 to improve to 6-1 on the season.

Madi Peterson started the first game for Triton, pitching seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out five batters for the Tigers. Grace Lance was on the bump for Trinity, pitching six innings, allowing 12 hits, seven earned runs and stirking out three batters.

Trinity responded in a big way after a slow game 1 on offense, exploding for 16 hits in a four run win over Batesville in game 2. Five girls recorded multiple hits for the Cougars in the winning effort.

Olivia Cain led the way with four hits and three runs batted in. Lance, Zoey Dulaney, Dianna Munoz, and Cami Keaton all recorded two hits and all of them at least drove one run in.

Trinity will travel to Indianapolis Lutheran on Tuesday for a game at 5:30 p.m.

Seymour

The Lady Owls softball team faced off with Jeffersonville on Saturday, dropping the HHC matchup with the Red Devils 3-0. Seymour would have four hits as a team, with Mackenzie Bryson leading the way with two of them. Phoebe Underwood and Taylor Stuckwisch recorded the other hits for the Owls.

Underwood got the start on the mound for Seymour, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing three runs and four hits, while striking out three batters. Stuckwisch pitched in relief for 1.2 innings, recording four strikeouts and allowing one hit. Neither team recorded an extra-base hit in the contest.

The Owls will now focus on hosting Columbus North on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Seymour (2-3) at Jeffersonville (0-0)

Brownstown Central

The Lady Braves faced off with Mid-Southern Conference foe in Eastern (Pekin) on Thursday on the road. The Braves led the game 3-0 when it started to rain, forcing the game to be postponed. The plan is to replay the game on Tuesday, Apr. 16th at 5:30 p.m.

Boys’ Golf

Brownstown Central

The Braves competed in their first golf meet of the season on Saturday at the Floyd Central Invitational. Brownstown finished in 3rd place out of 19 teams that competed with a team score of 322.

Evansville North took home the top spot with a score of 301, followed by Castle who scored 314.

Brownstown was led by Micah Sheffer and Matthew Reedy, who both carded 78’s for the Braves. Caiden Gwin scored an 80, with Collin Downing recording a 86. Smith Hackman finished his round with a 91 for Brownstown Central.

Trinity Lutheran

The Cougars boys’ golf team traveled down to Salem on Friday night for a triangular match with the Lions and Edinburgh. Trinity finished in second place with a team score of 209.

Salem won the event, and the Lancers finished in third place.

Nolan Teipen led the way for Trinity with a score of 51, followed by Alex Overgaard who shot a 52. Wylie Jones and Rylan Adair both scored a 53 for the Cougars. Sam Lorenz scored a 65 for Trinity Lutheran.

Track and Field

Crothersville

The Tigers hit the road on Friday evening, heading down to Corydon Central to compete in the 2024 Stargazer Invitational. Crothersville would finish tied for 15th in the girls side, and finish 16th on the boys side.

Brooklyn Bottorff finished in 8th place in the discus throw, with teammate Hali Burton finishing in 16th for the Tigers. Jazlin Gibson finished in 24th in the 100-meter dash. Bottorff also finished in 10th in the shot put, with Hayden Pilgrim following in 11th.

Dirk Crater finished in 11th in the 1600-meter run for the boys. In the 4×400-meter relay, the tandem of Koby Davis, Taylor Barger, Brayden Heath and Jeremy McQuirt finished in 13th for Crothersville.

Edgewood took the top spot with a team score of 139.50 in the girls’ event, with Corydon Central winning the boys’ with a score of 118.50.
