Town council looks to fill school board seat

BROWNSTOWN — Three town residents have submitted their names as potential replacements for a Brownstown Central Community School Corporation’s board of trustee’ seat to be vacated by Scott Shade on June 30.

Shade joined the board on Feb. 25, 2013, as a replacement for longtime board member Lawrence “Jack” Montgomery who had recently passed away. The seat is one of two representing the town of Brownstown. Those seats are appointed by the town council.

Knowing of Shade’s decision not to pursue a third four-year term led to the council beginning the process of replacing him. They recently asked for letters of intent from anyone wishing to represent the town on the school board.

The three applicants are Gregory Hutcheson, Sharon Markel and Scott E. Butt.

The council plans to interview each candidate during a public meeting in the coming weeks, but one of the council’s regularly scheduled meetings which are at 6 p.m. are on the first and third Wednesday of each month.

That will get them a chance to share why they would be the best candidate during a separate interview, council President Gregg Goshorn.

The new trustee would resume office for a four-year term on July 1.
