CROTHERSVILLE— The Crothersville, Trinity Lutheran and Hauser track teams opened their seasons on the Tigers’ track Monday afternoon.

Hauser won the girls’ meet with 70 points, Trinity had 55 and Crothersville 11. The Hauser boys scored 79 points, Crothersville had 46 and Trinity 16.

The Trinity girls won six events with Abby Lorenz winning two, as she received blue ribbons in the high jump (4-8) and the 200 (30.78). She was also on the 4×100 relay team that was first at 57.03. Other girls in that race were Emalee Goss, Kaydence Miller and Cheyenne Campbell.

Miller also won the 100 at 13.13, Bailey Bonde won the shot put at 29-41/2, and Ava Blomenberg won the 400 at 1:08.81.

Cougars Coach Keith Dyer said, “I’m very proud of both the boys and the girls. Everyone executed their event where I wanted them to be.

“There is room for improvement. There always is. It was the first meet and everybody was nervous.

“Bonde did great throwing, our high jumpers did well. I’m very proud of them. I was really pleased with how our distance runners did. We have two freshmen and a sophomore for the boys, and they did really well for the first meet.

“I was really pleased with our sprinting, especially in the 400. (Jake) Holland had strong races.”

Holland won the high hurdles in 15.56 and the lows in 42.19

“I thought they gave everything they had. Some of them came to me and said they learned a few things, when to start their kicks, how to change it up on the curves a little bit,” Dyer said.

“As a coach that is encouraging, and they’re starting to coach themselves. The staff has done a nice job of educating them as well.”

CHS girls coach Marc Bowman spoke on the outcome Monday.

“This was Hayden (Pilgrim)’s first meet of the year. She threw a 25-91/2 and I’m really proud about that,” Bowman said. “We’ve had two indoor meets. The other two got to go to them. They can do better than they did today. We really haven’t worked much on the discus. We’ve spent a lot of time on the shot put.”

The Crothersville boys won three events. Dirk Crater won the mile in 5:06 and Beau Napier won the high jump at 5-3.

Napier, Kaleb Moeller, Jeremy Mize and Brayden Heath teamed up to win the 4×1 relay in 51.31.

Boys’ Coach Matt Otte said, “Our 4×1 did a really good job, and we won the mile.

“We had a lot of freshmen do well that had never ran a track meet before, and some of them got ribbons, and they’re excited, and that is priceless just to have them be excited to run and to have an idea of what this is all about.

“We’ve got a month to improve and they know where they need to improve.”
