Michael Steven “Steve” Blackwood, 75, of Seymour, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024.

He was born November 20, 1948, in Seymour to the late James K. and Betty J. (Williams) Blackwood.

Steve enlisted in the United States Navy in August 1967, serving until November 1971, and later joined the United States Naval Reserve from June 1981 to April 1994. Rising through the ranks, he served with distinction in VP-60, VP-44, VP-30, and VC-4. His exemplary service was recognized with significant awards, including the Navy &Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy “E” Ribbon, two Navy Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, and Navy &Marine Corps Overseas Service Medal. He displayed unwavering leadership and valor in every mission and assignment. After his military service, Steve dedicated himself to a 30-year career at Cummins, retiring in 2001.

Beyond his military service, Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed camping, classic cars, and dirt track racing.

Steve is survived by his wife, Barbara J. (Wooten) Blackwood; children, Dwayne (Katrina) Blackwood and Jeremy (Deana) Blackwood; stepson, Mike Bright; grandchildren, Zak Blackwood, Morgan (Conner) Arnholt, and Dylan Blackwood; great-grandchildren, Parker and Crew Arnholt; and sister, Sharon (Mark) Percival.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, listed above; and brothers, Lyle Blackwood and Rex Blackwood.

Funeral services for Steve will be held Thursday, April 4, at 11am at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. Rev. Gary Dyer of Seymour Harvest Church will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Wednesday, April 3, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
