Genevie “Jennie” Ray went home to live with Jesus on March 28, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family and caring staff, including Schneck Hospice. She resided in the Lutheran Community Home.

Jennie was born on May 5, 1932, at home on a farm near Medora. Her parents were Hubert and Flo (Baker) Flinn. She had two sisters and one brother. She graduated from Cortland High School in 1950 and lived most of her life in Cortland. She married Albert Ray on 4/8/1951 and they raised a family of three children in Cortland. Albert preceded her in death in 1992. Her work included the Auditor’s office at Jackson County Courthouse, Jackson County Bank, Liz Claiborne store, and Bridal Boutique.

Jennie’s faith was the most important part in her life. She accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized and served at the Cortland Christian Church for about 65 years. Daily Bible reading was a very important part of her life. She was a great prayer warrior and inspiration to many. The last few years she worshipped at Central Christian Church and loved her new church family there also.

Jennie dearly loved her family which included sons, Doug (Cheryl) Ray of Seymour and Todd (Susie) Ray of Hutchison, Kansas; and daughter Julie (Steve) Nay of Seymour. She was Mamaw to Jason Ray, Jon Ray, Heather Nay, Thaddeus Nay, Sean Ray, Ian Ray, Graham Ray, and Jami Gersonade. She was blessed with great-grandchildren: Danielle Nay, Elliott Ray, Emerson Ray, Georgia Kate Gersonade, and Aiden Peters. She is survived by a sister, Anita Warren (Kansas), members of her extended family and friends. She was lovingly cared for by the Lutheran Home staff.

She was a member of the Seymour Lioness Club, past member of Order of Easter Star (Grand Representative to Australia), Schneck Guild for 22 years, Jackson County Women’s Fellowship, Go Ye Missionary group, and was a devoted volunteer. She hosted two foreign exchange students also.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister, Betty Werskey, and brother, Marvin Flinn.

Visitation will take place from 9-12 Noon, Wednesday, April 3, at Central Christian Church, 1434 W. 2nd Street, Seymour. Pastor David Huey will officiate a funeral service to follow at 12 Noon. She will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery.
