After going several years without a track team, Medora has re-started its track program..

The Hornets will open their season at Brownstown Central along with Crothersville and Austin on Tuesday.

Crothersville and Trinity Lutheran will open their seasons Monday on the Tigers’ track with Hauser also competing.

Medora

Carley McCammon is head coach of the Medora team.

“My goal is to start building back the track program,” she said. “Medora has not had a track team for a few years and I’m glad we’re getting kids back into it.

“Since these athletes have not done track before, this is a learning experience for all of them and I’m hoping to see a great deal of improvement throughout the season.”

Sophomores Bobby Baughman, Hudson Johnson and Kade Wright are competing for the boys.

“One of our boys will be throwing and the other two will be running the 100 and 200,” McCammon said.

Making up the girls roster are seniors Laykin Hinderlider and Peyton Spence, junior Haylee Sons and freshmen Lily Hatchett and Winnie Thompson.

“I have a couple girls who are going to be doing the throwing events, and the others are interested in the sprints.

“Since Medora does not have a track, we have been utilizing the weight room at the school, the ball park where I have marked off certain running distances, and there is an area for the throwers to practice.

“Brownstown has also been great and allowed us to practice at their track some, as well.

“At the early meets, I’m just really hoping for the kids to get a feel for how the meets go, get adjusted to the level of competition, and get an idea of what we need to work on for the next meets.”

Trinity Lutheran

Heading up the Trinity boys is Jake Holland and the girls is Emalee Goss.

Both were regional qualifiers last year with Holland advancing in the 300 hurdles, and Goss advancing in the high jump.

Coach Keith Dyer is working with six boys and 11 girls.

The only senior on the boy’s roster is Connor Nichols, while Kaydance Miller and Laina Klinge are seniors competing for the girls.

Holland is the only junior boy. Junior girls competing are Goss, Ava Blomenberg, Cheyenne Campbell, Marley Coomler, and Abby Lorenz.

Dyer said, “Strong events for the boys are 110 and 300 hurdles, 100, 800, 1600 and 3200, and for the girls the high jump, throws, 100 and 400, and the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

“I believe the 4×400 can score in the sectional. I believe our boys 4×400 team can score at the sectional,” Dyer said.

Dyer said he feels like he has some good individuals

“Both teams are small, but we have good talent with a strong work ethic and desire to improve.

”I expect us to have higher teams placings this year at all of our meets with more kids scoring at the sectionals.”

Crothersville

Crothersville coaches Marc Bowman for the girls and Matt Otte for the boys, are working with young squads. Bowman does not have any juniors or seniors on his roster with just two sophomores and four freshmen.

Otte has three juniors, Beau Napier, Dirk Crater and Corey Reynolds, plus one sophomore and 10 freshmen.

Bowman said, “For scorers, Jazlin Gibson will be the only runner so she will be the only one getting any points running. The three throwers could go back and forth each meet. They’re all fairly close to each other in distance.”

“None of them have any school records. Four are new to the team and Hali (Burton) didn’t compete at the Southern Athletic Conference or sectional last year. She had surgery right before the conference.

“My outlook is hopefully to win the shot and discus at a few meets, the SAC being the main one.”

Burton received the mental attitude and most improved awards at the awards program last spring.

Heading up the CHS boys is junior Dirk Crater. He was a regional qualifier in the 3200 last year, and won the 1600 and 3200 at the conference meet.

He holds the school record in the 3200 and was the recipient of the most improved and outstanding runner awards. Reynolds was named the outstanding field events performer.

“I’m looking for the freshmen to contribute as much as possible,” Otte said. “I’m looking for all the upperclassmen to win some points as each meet.

“We’ve got a really good mix in different events. We’re going to compete in just about everything. Napier will run the 4×1 relay and high jump and long jump like he has done in the past.”

The Tigers have three meets during the week as they run at Brownstown Tuesday and at Corydon Friday night.
