The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department has launched a death investigation after the body of a man was found Thursday evening near the East Fort of the White River west of Seymour.

The sheriff’s department received a call at 7:11 p.m. Thursday from an individual who had located the male in a wooded area near the Bell Ford Bridge off State Road 258.

The investigation is still ongoing and an autopsy is being scheduled to determine the cause of death. The identity of the male is being withheld at this time until all family members have been contacted.
