The Seymour and Trinity Lutheran softball teams opened their seasons at home Monday afternoon and both teams won.
Seymour whipped Brown County 12-1 in five innings, and Trinity Lutheran topped Madison 8-6.
Owls top Eagles
Seymour scored runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings to roll to the easy win.
The Owls pounded out 14 hits with Taylor Stuckwisch having a single, a home run and four RBIs.
Diem Castetter, Mackenzie Bryson, Abby Followell, Phoebe Underwood and Stuckwisch had two hits each, and Lainey Sandlin, Addyson Coomer, Avery Stewart and EmmaKae Sweet had one hit each.
Sandlin, Castetter, Bryson, Underwood and Stewart also had one RBI each.
“Our bats were hot with 14 hits,” Coach Emily Bobb said.
Underwood pitched for the Owls and allowed one hit, one run. She also had five strike outs.
“Phoebe did a nice job of keeping them off the bases and the defense backed her up by making routine plays and committing no errors,” Bobb said.
Seymour won the JV game 12-2.
Cougars top Cubs
The Cougars had to rally to top Madison.
“The girls battled all night,” Coach Herb Gross said. “We took an early 1-0 lead, then gave up a grand slam to go down 4-1. We chipped away with a couple runs in th4 fourth and fifth innings to take the lead.”
Addison Keaton had two singles and three RBIs, Olivia Cain had three hits, including a double, and she drove in two runs and scored two runs.
Addi Burcham also had a single and double, one RBI and she scored two runs. Grace Lance had a double and scored a run, Zoe Dulaney and Maddie Adams had one hit each, and Adams scored two runs.
Lance was the winning pitcher as she had 13 strike outs and allowed nine hits.
