A 38-year-old Bartholomew County man faces two Level 6 felony charges of theft in connection with an investigation into the theft of a credit card, laptop, cellphone and adjustable computer desk from the company he once worked for in Seymour.

James A. Persinger of Columbus was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 6:36 p.m. Friday and was being held on $1,505 bond Tuesday afternoon.

On Jan. 27, officials with Valeo North America in Seymour contacted Seymour Police Department to report a former employee had used a company credit card for personal reasons, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster.

He said Valeo officials also said the former employee, identified as Persinger, was in possession of a laptop computer, a cellphone and an adjustable computer desk that belonged to the company.

The company told investigators Persinger would not return the items when asked to do so and was observed removing some of the items from the plant, Foster said.

He said investigators were able to determine Persinger had used the company credit card for personal reasons totaling more than $9,000. The total amount of the other missing items was $2,345.

On Friday, investigators and patrol officers along with officers from the Columbus Police Department executed a Jackson Superior Court I search warrant at a residence on Henry Drive in Columbus.

During the execution of that warrant, investigators and patrol officers located the missing laptop computer, cellphone and the adjustable computer desk belonging to Valeo, Foster said.

Also located at the residence was other computer hardware belonging to Valeo.
