Westport man arrested after leaving scene of accident, resisting officers

A Westport man was arrested Thursday evening after leaving the scene of an accident and leading Jennings County deputies on a lengthy foot pursuit.

Bradley Lovingood, 31, is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor, leaving the scene of an accident, a Class C misdemeanor, and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

Jennings County Officer Dylan Smock and Sgt. Ben Seastrom were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash at State Road 3 and County Road 675N. Dispatchers informed officers a witness was reporting the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Lovingood, was walking away from the scene of the crash.

Officers who later arrived on scene were told by bystanders the driver was last seen walking northbound on State Road 3 and walked into the woods on the west side of the roadway, police reported.

Smock walked into the woods and saw Lovingood running in the opposite direction. Officers than announced themselves to Lovingooo at which time he fled on foot. After a long foot pursuit and the utilization of a Taser, Lovingood was taken into custody without further incident.

Lovingood was treated by Rescue 20 on scene and transported to the hospital for further evaluation. After evaluation at the hospital, Lovingood was transported to the Jennings County Jail.

Officers were assisted by North Vernon Police Department officers and personnel from North Vernon Fire Department, Rescue 20, Jennings County Dispatch and Lucas Wrecker Service.
