What’s the name of the book and author you are recommending?

“Cinder” by Marissa Meyer.

What made you want to pick up this book in the first place?

Several people had requested this book and said it was a great read.

Once you got into the book, what made you want to keep reading it?

I was so engrossed in the story that I had to find out how it all played out.

Once you finished the book, what did you like about it?

I liked that I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next. Also, the mention of a pandemic that they are dealing with helped me connect since we recently went through COVID-19.

What is the book about?

This book is a Cinderella retelling about a 16-year-old girl who is part cyborg. Her skills as the best mechanic around have been spread through word of mouth. The prince finds her and asks her to fix his old droid that stopped working. She asked why he didn’t upgrade to a newer model or have his royal mechanics fix it and he lied saying it was just a sentimental droid. Since she is part cyborg she has a censor that goes off every time someone lies. Meanwhile, their world is on the brink of war while fighting a deadly pandemic.

Why would you recommend this book to others?

Honestly, when I read the blurb, I thought I wasn’t going to be able to get into the story. It was not my cup of tea. I tried it anyways and ended up being sucked into the story rather quickly. I was pleasantly surprised. This is your chance to explore, get out of your comfort zone, and read something different. I recommend this book hoping you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was. Cinder is available at the Jackson Public Library. We also have it available on our apps hoopla and Libby as an E-book or audiobook. Happy Reading!
