IBCA Girls All-State

The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association announced its girls all-state honors on Thursday afternoon with 4 Jackson County athletes on the list.

Sophie Wischmeier made the 2024 IBCA/Franciscan Health Underclass All-State Supreme 15 team as an honorable mention. Madison Keith of Trinity Lutheran was also on the list.

Wischmeier was a ‘pivotal’ piece of the Lady Braves state title run, defeating Southwestern, Henryville, Austin, South Spencer, Linton-Stockton, and Eastern Hancock. The team would fall to Fort Wayne Luers in the Class 2A State Final 44-36. Brownstown finished their season with a 21-9 record.

Trinity Lutheran finished their season with another sectional title, falling in the regional to Wood Memorial by 13 points. Keith was the leading scorer for the Cougars before she went down with an injury this season. Trinity finished their 2023-24 season with a 14-12 record.

Keith proved to be a double-double machine, as she averaged one during her play this season. She averaged 15.2 points per game along with 11.7 rebounds per game.

Seymour had two girls listed on the 2024 IBCA/Franciscan Health Senior All-State Supreme 15 as honorable mentions. Journee Brown and Kendall Sterling were both selected for their senior seasons.

Both are playing college basketball as Brown heads to Taylor, and Sterling going to Thomas More in Kentucky. Brown averaged 13.7 ppg along with leading the team in rebounding with 6.3 per game. Sterling averaged 14.5 ppg and 5.3 assists per game.

The Lady Owls finished with an 11-12 record and fell in their opening sectional matchup to high-powered Jennings County 59-38.

Mid-Southern All-Conference

The all-conference for the Mid-Southern were announced throughout the week. Brownstown had two girls who represented the Lady Braves on the team.

Sophie Wischmeier was selected to the Mid-Southern All-Conference team, while Jenna Klosterman made it on the Mid-Southern Honorable Mention squad. Both players were key in their state final apperance this season.
