CROTHERSVILLE

Melba Jane Hoevener, 78, of Crothersville, IN, passed away peacefully at Schneck Medical Center on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 9:58 AM.

Melba was born on Friday October 5, 1945, in Seymour, IN, to Emil and Ruby (Darlage) Stuckwisch, both of whom preceded her in death. A devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished friend, Melba touched the lives of all who knew her.

Melba enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring as the Head Teller at Jackson County Bank after 30 years of service. Additionally, she retired from H&R Block after nearly 30 years and contributed her time to the Hoevener farm. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1963 and remained active in her community throughout her life.

On November 10, 1963, Melba married the love of her life, Harold L. Hoevener, at St. John’s Sauers Lutheran Church in Seymour. Their union lasted over 60 years, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

A faithful member of St. John’s Sauers Lutheran Church and the Jackson County Historical Society, Melba found joy in her church community and valued preserving the history of her beloved county.

Melba was a creative soul who expressed her love through quilting. She gifted each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild a handmade quilt for Christmas this year, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and comfort. Her green thumb was evident in the flowers surrounding her home, and she took pride in mowing her lawn. Melba also enjoyed embroidery work and attended tractor shows across the United States.

Known as the family rock, Melba was the “go to person” for anything, always ready to lend a helping hand. She had a good heart, and her love served as the stitching that bound the family together. Melba found joy in refurbishing family pieces, transforming them into cherished family treasures.
