The Seymour Police Department gained a new officer before the end of the year as Ethan Chandler was sworn in during a board of public works and safety meeting.

Chandler is originally from Hayden but currently lives in Seymour with his wife, Baylee, and two kids, Katchyr and Kaelhyr. He is a graduate of Jennings County High School and spent four years in the U.S. Army as a military police officer.

“I have always wanted to be a police officer because I want to help others and make a positive impact on the community,” he said.

Chandler said he believes some good qualities of a police officer include the ability to communicate, build relationships and have an open mind in all situations while being vigilant.

“I hope to expand my knowledge of the profession and serve the people in the community of Seymour to the best of my abilities,” he said.

Chandler said he is ready to meet new people within the community and is excited to build bonds with his fellow officers that will last forever.

“I will make a positive impact on my community by being present and actively building relationships to promote safety,” he said.

Chandler thanked his wife, kids and others, such as Kristen, Carlee, Cory and Devin, for supporting him through the entire process.
