John R. Donahue, age 90, husband of the late Virginia “Ida” Donahue, passed away at his home surrounded by his family Friday morning, December 22, 2023.

John was born on December 25, 1932, in Retreat, IN, to the late Michael Donahue and Lena Harper Donahue. He worked as a truck driver at American National Can for over 40 years. He also used to farm his own land as well as raise livestock. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and fishing. John was known to be a practical joker and loved square dancing with his wife. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter Melinda Donahue; two granddaughters, Amanda Speer and Rebecca Johnson (Christopher); seven great-grandchildren, Alexia Persinger, Gavin Persinger, Tarani Persinger, Magnolia Johnson, Quentin Williams, Noah Williams and Camron Williams; great great grandchildren include Jordyn Parkin, Emery Parkin and (soon-to-be) Willow Reed; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two daughters, Venessa Lee Donahue in 1956 and Debora Sue Donahue in 1976; siblings, Gene Donahue, Glennis Schneck, Wilbur Donahue, Donald Donahue and Claris Niewidde.

Services for John will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2PM at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, 316 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, IN 47274. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Thursday evening, December 28, from 5:00-8:00PM and again on Friday from 1PM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
