Christmas Bird Count set at refuge

Anyone who enjoys looking at birds is invited to join volunteers conducting the refuge Christmas Bird Count on Jan. 1 at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, 12985 E. U.S. 50, Seymour.

Christmas Bird Counts are done nationwide during the holiday season, and data collected over time give interesting insights in how species distributions have changed.

The refuge count will start at 7:30 a.m. at the visitor center, where groups will form to cover specific areas of the refuge. Birders can stay all day or just half a day, and a hot soup lunch will be available courtesy of the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society.
