Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department recently arrested three individuals as the result of three separate investigations since Friday.

The most recent was reported at 10 p.m. Sunday and involved a motorist in a maroon Buick passenger car who had struck two vehicles and a railroad crossing sign on West Spring Street in Ewing, according to a news release from Sheriff Rick Meyer.

Officer Kevin Settle arrived on the scene and found the vehicle. After being taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for a blood draw, the driver of that car, Catherine Miller, 50, of Freetown, was arrested for operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction within five years. Officer Mark Reynolds assisted with that investigation.

The second incident was reported at 7 a.m. Sunday and involved the theft of a motorcycle from a residence in the 100 block of North Jackson Street in Medora.

Officer Scott Ferguson took a report of the incident. Over the next few hours — and with the help of the community — Rex Burrell, 63, of Medora was identified as a suspect and arrested by Reserve Officer Greg Murphy in town, Meyer said.

Burrell was still being held Wednesday with bond pending on a theft charge and three warrants for failure to appear at the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.

Brownstown Police Department Detective Jac Sanders assisted with that investigation.

On Friday, Officer Justin Amos received information that Katie L. Brummett, 28, of Grove, Oklahoma, was staying at Econolodge in Seymour.

Brummett, who had an active out-of-state full extradition warrant, was found outside the hotel by Amos and was detained, Meyer said.

Brummett had marijuana and a smoking device on her person, he said.

Amos petitioned Jackson Superior Court II for a search warrant of Brummett’s room. A search warrant was conducted, and investigators found three plastic bags containing suspected methamphetamine, a container containing suspected methamphetamine, five bags containing various marijuana and THC products, smoking devices, a fake Texas driver’s license with a different name and numerous other items, Meyer said.

The suspected methamphetamine field tested positive for methamphetamine and had a total weight of 80 grams, while the marijuana and THC products had a weight of 40 grams, police said.

Brummett was arrested for dealing methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a hypodermic syringe or needle. She was being held pending bond Wednesday at the jail.

Seymour Police Department detectives Mathew Carver and Mike Payne, Detective Cpl. Adam Surface and K-9 Officer Sam Hughes assisted with that investigation.
