Legal Aid is planning free phone clinics for low-income residents of Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Rush and Shelby counties.

They are set for Dec. 6 and 12. Register on the day of the clinic by calling 812-378-0358 between noon and 2 p.m. An attorney will call you between 3 and 5:30 p.m.

Callers can receive free legal advice on civil legal matters, including adoptions, advance directives, family law (child support modification, custody, divorce, parenting time), guardianships, powers of attorney, protective orders, simple wills and small estates. No criminal law questions may be asked.

Callers also can receive free legal advice regarding an eviction, including the residential eviction process, negotiating with your landlord, legal defenses to an eviction, damages hearings and money judgments and sealing of eviction records.
