PETERSBURG
Carol Ann Johnson, 53, of Petersburg, Indiana, passed away to be with the Lord November 13, 2023, in Petersburg. Carol was born September 8, 1970 to William and Helen (Brauer) Hansen in Laramie, Wyoming.
After spending some time in Southern Illinois, she grew to maturity in Brooksville, Florida. There, a young man caught her fancy and together they set out across the land in search of adventure. And many adventures there were, traveling west to Oklahoma.
She became a welder for a while, but the glamour and prestige was just too much. After hanging up her hood, Carol set her sights on college. Graduating from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK with an associates degree and became a phlebotomist. It was a perfect niche, serving elderly people and making children cry was her forte. And she did it well. But Indiana was calling, and after settling in Petersburg, Carol became a beautician. Her true calling to the end. Carol was a very active and cherished member of the Winslow General Baptist Church where she assisted with the children’s youth program and was a member of and sang with the Wednesday night bible study bunch. She was also a member of the Vincennes American Legion Auxiliary Post #73 and was always a generous supporter of many veterans organizations. She loved the American Flag and what it stands for and always thanked the veterans for their service, a true patriot.
Carol loved her cats, flowers and birdfeeders. Many a summer evening she would be found on the back porch reading her bible and watching her many hummingbird feeders. Carol’s love of music was well known and most people who knew her didn’t understand that Carol’s family and friends trooped off to music festivals from Indiana to Florida to see artists that practically no one had ever heard of. Being a card-carrying member of both the Antique Motorcycle Club of America and Chief Blackhawk Antique Motorcycle Club of Davenport, Iowa. She was often seen performing stunts aboard her Vintage 1949 Harley Davidson Servi-car at the many swap meets and antique races. She loved anything old and unique; her husband Michael is proof of that. Weary travelers who wandered into her campsite were always welcomed warmly, offered a seat and good conversation. And would never leave hungry or in thirst. Those in mechanical distress could count on a gallon of gas, loan of a battery charger, or even her last set of spark plugs. Always the prankster pulling the pranks with those shifty eyes and mischievous smile. When confronted she could never hold up to the interrogation for her contagious laugh would give her away as the culprit every time.
Carol was a generous, caring, funny young lady who loved God and her family and would jump and run to help anyone in need, and never accept anything in return. She had many, many friends and had never met a stranger. She will be missed by everyone who had ever been blessed to know her.
Carol is survived by her husband, Michael Johnson of Petersburg, IN; her brothers, William Donald Hansen Jr. of Ringgold, VA, Larry (Chiara) Hansen of Myrtle Beach, SC, Richard (Tina) Hansen of Ringgold, VA, and Michael (Julie) Hansen of Brooksville, FL; sister, Cora (Edwin) Pagan of St. Petersburg, FL; her “Mom and Dad”, Lonnie and JoAnne Beers; foster brother, Don (Susan) Jackson of Brooksville, FL; foster sisters, Debbie Jackson of Wedowee, AL and Connie (Tom) Flesch of Franklin, NC; sister-in-law, Julie (Nick) Vogel of Seymour, IN; brother-in-law, Kevin (Angie) Johnson of Seymour, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, William Donald and Helen Carol (Brauer) Hansen and “Mom and Dad”, Samuel “Stonewall” and Dollie Jackson.
Services for Carol will take place at 6 PM EST on Friday, November 24, at the Winslow General Baptist Church in Winslow, IN with visitation from 3 PM until service time. A graveside service will take place at 10:30 AM EST on Saturday, November 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour, IN. Brother Gary Pancake will be officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Winslow General Baptist Church and mailed to PO Box 426 Winslow, IN 47598. Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN is entrusted with care.
