Providing HOPE

Thumbs up to everyone involved in organizing or who donated to the 14th HOPE Medora Goes Pink cancer awareness event held Oct. 14. This year’s event raised $28,183.12. Over the years, $245,000 has been distributed for groceries and fuel for those fighting cancer.

Students of the Month

Thumbs up to the Braves of the Month for September who were recognized during Tuesday’s meeting of the Brownstown Central Community School Corp. board of school trustees. They are Brownstown Central High School junior Claire Schepman, Brownstown Central Middle School eighth-grader Madison Darlage and Brownstown Elementary School fourth-grader Charlie Barnard.

Banking on retirement

Thumbs up to Seymour resident Mary Anne Jordan, who spent 54 years in banking, including 45 years with Jackson County Bank, before retiring Friday. The 73-year-old was honored with a reception at the Jackson Park office of JCBank in Seymour.

Sectional sensations

Thumbs up to the Trinity Lutheran High School volleyball squad for winning the Medora Sectional on Oct. 14 by defeating Rising Sun in the championship. The Cougars, who have won 10 sectional titles in a row and 13 overall, now face Loogootee at 10 a.m. today in the Loogootee Regional. The Cougars roster includes seniors Drew Hubbard, Laina Klinge, Allison Ward and Kiley Zabel; juniors Ava Blomenberg, Carson Bowling, Jordan Brewer, Cheyenne Campbell, Addison Darlage, Madison Keith and Laura Roeder; sophomores Maddie Adams, Bailey Bonde, Lila Hunter and Marci Leinart; and freshmen Samantha Brown, Addison Burcham, Zoey Dulaney, Blayklee Hancock, Elleigh Kiel, Taylor Kramer, Emma Lucas, Presley Meyer, Olivia Schepman, Liza Vaughn, Emerson Warren, Marley Warren, Julianne Wessel and Brooklyn Whipker. The 18-15 Cougars are coached by Janet VanLiew.

Thumbs up to the Brownstown Central High School volleyball squad for winning the Henryville Sectional on Saturday by beating Mitchell in the title game. The Braves face North Decatur in the second game of the Mitchell Regional at 1 p.m. today. The Braves sectional roster featured seniors Adelynn Anderson, Kera Wischmeier and Kaitlyn Williams; juniors Addison Darlage, Kinzee Dean, Haley Derringer, Noelani McPherson, Paisleigh Peters and Jaydynn Yeadon; sophomores Jenna Boknecht, Claire Brelage, Olivia Fritz, Olivia Justice, Brailey Tiepen, Genna Preston, Ashlyn Sorg, Finley Wheeler and Sophie Wischmeier; and freshmen Claire Brock, Alex Davidson, Ella Nehrt, Lois Vaught and Claire Young. The 21-13 Braves, who won a fourth straight sectional title and 24th overall, are coached by Jennifer Shade.

Perfection

Thumbs up to the Brownstown Central Middle School eighth grade football team that went undefeated for the second season in a row. Team members include eighth-graders Landyn Arnold, Dawson Branaman, Conner Brewster, Silas Brown, Isaac Cockerham, Domanik Cody, Keatyn Hallett, Mason Harrison, Eli Hutchinson, Linden Lanier, Tucker McCrary, Mason McKeown, Kolton Merrifield, Landon Mobley, William Ogle, Prather Peters, Matthew Sitterding and Dylan Toppe and seventh-graders Trenton Millick, Brennan Wingler, Nolan Nehrt and Cooper Vague. The 8-0 Braves were coached by Clark Hauer, Brian Savilla, Brian Branaman, Gregg Goshorn and Noah Reynolds.
