Leland D. Nierman, age 88, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown.

Mr. Nierman was baptized in faith on December 7, 1934, and confirmed in Christ on March 21, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan. He later became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, with his wife, Lois.

Mr. Nierman graduated from Tampico High School in 1953.

Leland worked many years at Midway Supply Company in Seymour before becoming a self-employed plumber and electrician. Through his self-employed business, he grew fond of his many customers in Jackson County, and he was always ready and willing to help anyone in need. Leland was a kind man, and he was loved and adored by many people.

Leland was loved and cherished by his children and grandchildren, and he especially adored each of his great-grandchildren.

Born on November 24, 1934, in Seymour, Leland was the son of Walter and Elnora (Melloncamp) Nierman, both of whom preceded her in death. On August 24, 1958, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, he married Lois Schuerman, and she preceded him in death on April 21, 2019.

Survivors include one son, Michael (Rachel) Nierman of Brownstown; one daughter, Lisa (Greg) Wischmeier of Brownstown; two sisters: Frances Klug of Lakeland, Florida, and Sandra (Don) Edwards of Columbus; five grandchildren: Lindsey (Clint) Sterling, Kyle (Trinity) Wischmeier, Michala Nierman, Matthew (Ally) Nierman, and Mallory Nierman; four great-grandchildren: Lynleigh Ann Sterling, Crew Daniel Sterling, Waylon James Nierman, and Edey Lynn Wischmeier; and several nieces and nephews.

Leland was also preceded in death by one brother, Harlan Nierman.

Funeral services for Leland D. Nierman will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, with Pastor Craig Muhlbach officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers.

Interment will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, St. John’s Lutheran School or Donor’s choice.
