BROWNSTOWN — A tentative contract agreement has been reached between the Brownstown Central Classroom Teachers Association and the school corporation.

Tim Taylor, superintendent of Brownstown Central Community School Corp., made that announcement during a public hearing about that deal Tuesday night. The hearing was held prior to the board of school trustees’ regular monthly meeting at the administration building.

No one spoke in favor of or against the proposed contract, which may be viewed online at btownccs.k12.in.us/documents under the board tab.

“The tentative agreement was made on Wednesday, Oct. 4,” Taylor said. “Some of the highlights of the agreement are increases to all members of our bargaining unit of $6,000 as a combination of salary and increase per stipend. The beginning salary increased $44,000 to $48,000.“

The maximum teachers salary also increased from $77,500 to $80,500. The deal also includes an increase of $200 for a single health insurance plan and $800 for a family health insurance plan; the addition of an e-gaming coach at Brownstown Central High School; and the addition of an assistant archery coach.

Taylor thanked Corey Lanier, president of the teachers association, and John Lawson, who served as chairman of the association’s bargaining team, for making the contract happen along with the corporation’s bargaining team of Trustee Paul Borden, Treasurer Patsy Hess, Secretary Angie Wheeles and Assistant Superintendent Jade Peters.

“It was a very good session, and we were able to do a lot of nice things,” he said.

After the hearing, the board scheduled a meeting to ratify the contract at 5 p.m. Monday at the administration building, 608 W. Commerce St., Brownstown.
