Winifred Pauline “Winnie” Vogel, 94, of Commiskey, passed away at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at her residence.

Born December 17, 1928, in Hamilton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret Ellen (Richardson) Gadd. She married Carl Vogel on October 15, 1960, in Seymour; he preceded her in death on February 28, 2009.

Winifred was a 1947 graduate of North Vernon High School and later attended business college in Florida. She owned the “Eat” Restaurant in North Vernon and later the Tots and Teens Children Store in Seymour. She retired from Contel/Verizon after 10 years of service before retiring in 1992. She had previously worked as a secretary for Cummins Engine Company. She was a member of the Church of God in Seymour where she taught Sunday School, and later attended the First Marion Baptist Church in Commiskey. Winifred played sports in her younger days and was in a bowling league. She was a life-long Cincinnati Reds fan. She was a accomplished baker and gardener. She loved to make Christmas goodies for all her family to enjoy. She loved her doll collection and was talented in ceramics. She was a friend to many and loved Southern Gospel music.

Survivors include her daughters, Peggy (Cyrus) Adams of Vincennes and Debbie (Bob) Matney of Commiskey; sister, Eva Croucher of Florida; grandchildren, Ben Matney and Cindy (Clynton) Law, both of Commiskey, Laura Jane Bowling of Erlanger, Kentucky, Tasha (Mike) Sharp and Jason Bowling, both of Alexandria, Kentucky, Colby Vogel of Columbus, and Katie Vogel of Dupont; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Pam Bowling; son, Danny Vogel; grandchild, Brett Adams; and great-grandchild, Oliver Vogel; brothers, William and Raymond Gadd Jr.; and sisters, June and Zoe Gadd.

A funeral service for Winifred will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dan Cash officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.

Memorials may be made in honor of Winifred through the funeral home to Alzheimer’s Association, First Marion Baptist Church, or Schneck Medical Center Hospice.
