The Brownstown Central football team will head down to Scottsburg for the final game of the 2023 regular season.

Brownstown clinched its 24th Mid-Southern Conference title in football against Silver Creek last week.

Head coach Reed May spoke about the Braves clinching their conference title after remaining undefeated to this point in the Mid-Southern.

“It was a great achievement. It’s always one of our goals to win the conference every season,” May said. “Now, we can move on to our next goal and continue focusing on our next game.”

This week, Brownstown faces the Warriors in one final conference showdown to wrap up the regular season.

May spoke about avenging the 23-14 loss to Scottsburg last season.

“They beat us last year. It seemed like they wanted it more. Credit to them for playing well and beating us,” he said. “We’re focusing on going into the sectional on a high note, and we need to play better against Scottsburg than we did last year.”

Brownstown will look to finish its regular season with an 8-1 record and a perfect 7-0 in the Mid-Southern Conference.

Sectional pairings also were announced over the weekend with the Braves scheduled to face Indianapolis Scecina in the first round.

The game is shaping up to be a showdown between two top 10 Class 2A teams.

Indianapolis Scecina sits at 5-3 at the moment with coach Ott Hurrle in his 32nd season. May spoke about the sectional draw against the longtime coach.

“Indianapolis Scecina is an excellent program. Their coach has been with them for a long time,” he said. “This will be the first time we have played them. It will be tough playing Scecina and then having to face Triton Central if we win. Fortunately, it will be a home game for us against the Crusaders. We will have to play good football, but we have to focus on Scottsburg first.”

May also announced his players of the week from the dominating 45-14 win over Silver Creek.
