Cross country 

Brownstown Central

The Braves competed in the Mid-Southern Conference meet on Saturday.

Brownstown finished second in the girls side and fourth on the boys side. The girls scored 71 points in the runner-up finish, and Corydon Central took first place with a score of 22.

The Braves were led by Trinity Cody, who finished in 10th with a time of 20:59.78. Tori Lokey followed in 16th with a time of 21:57.08, and Cambell Shasteen was right behind in 17th, clocking a 22:05.54. Kelsey Schneider followed in 18th with a 22:16.01. Chelsie Combs was next for the Braves in 31st, clocking 25:22.40. Maddie Singleton then finished 33rd with a 25:36.35. Claire Schepman rounded out the Braves with a 35th-place finish in 25:55.63. Cody was selected to all-conference.

For the boys side, Silver Creek took the top spot with a score of 43, and Brownstown scored 73.

The Braves were led by the Ratliff brothers in Shane and Chance. Shane finished in fourth with a time of 16:11.19, while Chance finished sixth with a time of 16:34.06. Traven Wellman finished in 18th with a time of 17:47.03. Eli Crockett followed in 25th, clocking 18:42.76. Garrett Driver ended in 30th with a time of 19:10.78. Damien Owens finished in 65th with a time of 19:35.29. Brady Blann ended the race in 49th, clocking 24:23.20 for the Braves.

Volleyball

Trinity Lutheran

The Cougars traveled to Columbus East on Saturday for a tournament, winning one matchup and losing three games.

Trinity defeated Jeffersonville, 25-16, 25-18 for their 16th win of the 2023 season.

The Cougars dropped their matches with Bloomington North 18-25, 25-22, 13-15, Avon 19-25, 12-25 and Silver Creek 17-25, 21-25. Trinity fell to 16-15 on the season.

The team will now prepare to compete in the sectional at Medora High School on Oct. 14. Trinity will face the winner of Crothersville and New Washington at noon Saturday.

The junior varsity Owls traveled to Providence to compete in a tournament on Saturday.

The girls won twice and lost twice in the competition.

Seymour defeated Jeffersonville 25-14, 25-19 and Columbus East 25-20, 25-11. The Owls lost to Providence 17-25, 16-25 and Floyd Central 10-25, 9-25. The girls finished their season at 13-17.
