In a tough and physical matchup between the Cougars and Eagles on Thursday, Brown County  gained the edge to secure the sectional semifinal win over Trinity Lutheran.

Brown County scored a goal in each half to grab the 2-0 victory.

The Eagles advanced to the sectional championship on Saturday evening.

Trinity head coach Thom Hayes spoke about the outcome with the Eagles.

“It’s nothing I didn’t expect. We were down to one sub and had a few injuries this year,” Hayes said. “They had a deeper team than we did as well as a bench. I’m very proud of the effort that we had tonight. The girls played hard, even if it didn’t go the way we had hoped.”

It was a sloppy game with the ball rolling all over the Trinity soccer field. Brown County controlled the ball throughout the game.

Trinity Lutheran didn’t have many chances to score deep in Eagles territory, and they didn’t take advantage of them.

It was an all-out battle over possession with teams going back and forth, trying to gain positioning. The Cougars played their hearts out, leaving it all on the field.

The 2023 season is now over for the Cougars, with three Trinity girls finishing their high school soccer careers on Thursday.

Dianna Munoz, Addison Keaton and Kaydence Miller all played their final game under Hayes.

The Trinity coach spoke about the three girls who had given a lot of time to the program.

“It’s always sad, especially when you get to the last game,” Hayes said. “I’ve coached them for all four years. They have been a great part of the team and great contributors. Kaydence provided a lot on defense for us this season while also serving as a spark on offense. Dianna also played well in the goal this year, and Addison was also a great contributor to the team.”

The Eagles advanced with the win to face Providence in the sectional final on Saturday at 7 p.m. Providence has won the sectional all four years since moving to the 46th sectional in 2019.

Hayes and the Cougars will now prepare for the 2024 season.
