It was the beginning of the 2023 postseason in boys soccer on Monday, hosted by Trinity Lutheran, whicg faced off with Henryville in the first round.

The Cougars would be down 2-1 at halftime before falling back to 4-1. Trinity wouldn’t give up, scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes to make it a nail-biting finish.

Trinity fell to Henryville 4-3, ending their 2023 season. Cougars head coach Todd Jack spoke about the outcome against Henryville.

“It was part two because we played them a week ago. Henryville was the one team in our sectional that we hadn’t played until then,” Jack said. “We saw it as an opportunity to rebound after the first game against them. The guys took that opportunity and left it all on the field. A few unlucky things didn’t go our way tonight, and that was the tale on our end.”

Jack spoke about the amazing effort of the team in its final game of the season.

“It wasn’t for lack of effort at all. We played like there is no tomorrow. We can’t take anything from them or Henryville,” he said. “We had a lot more chances and more possession than they did. The ball just didn’t fall our way.”

Jack also spoke about his seniors, who took the field for the last time.

“These seniors are a special group. This is my third year of coaching, and we’ve been talking since they were sophomores about this season,” Jack said. “We lost two seniors to injuries this year. Those two guys being gone made a difference. The four seniors that played today are full of passion. They fueled the team with passion, passing it along to the younger guys. We have a bright future here at Trinity in boys soccer.”

Andrew Lemming, Connor Nichols, Trenton Burton, Peyton Pollert, Levi Pottschmidt and Zander Raggow played their final game as Trinity boys soccer players.

“It’s a tough loss. These guys brought a lot to the table for us. They wore their hearts on their sleeve all season and never gave in at all,” Jack said.

Henryville will now move to the second round to face off with Lanesville.

The winner of that contest will be playing in the sectional championship against Rock Creek, Christian Academy of Indiana or Austin.

The Cougars will begin to prepare for the 2024 boys soccer season.
